We are interested in mycobacterial pathogens that cause human disease, including Tuberculosis and other chronic and acute infections. Our goal is to understand the fundamental molecular mechanisms used by these bacterial pathogens cause disease. We are particularly interested in how pathogenic mycobacteria modify and transport proteins across membranes, and the connections between protein secretion, gene expression and the environment.
The Champion lab is committed to fostering and promoting an environment of diversity and inclusion. We strongly believe that the differences among individuals whether it be race, ethnicity, gender, age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, disability, or religion serve to enrich our research environment. Mutual respect of differences among us strengthens our laboratory and promotes and environment of support and intellectual challenge. We are committed to recruiting and supporting a diverse work force. By embodying the core values of the University of Notre Dame of integrity, accountability, teamwork, leadership in mission, and leadership in excellence, we believe that each person in our laboratory shares the responsibility of ensuring these values are sustained and strengthened.
